Ms Avril Chang

Ms Avril Chang has over 20 years experience as a Consultant Surgeon specialising in Upper Gastrointestinal surgery and Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Surgery. Trained and educated in Australia, she undertook advanced laparoscopic surgical training in Leeds General Infirmary and was a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College London, before being appointed as a Consultant to King's College Hospital London in 2006.  She now has her Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgical practice fully at Cleveland Clinic London. She has a particular specialist interest in gallstone diseases and has successfully performed thousands of keyhole surgery for patients to remove their gallbladder, with the majority being daycase or overnight stays.  She is also keen to help those with more complex gallstone problems and has been able to perform keyhole surgery for patients who have been told they had ‘difficult’ gallbladders, or were too ‘high risk’ for surgery.  She is happy to provide a second opinion and will review any tests or information you have been given and go through them with you. Ms Chang also has extensive experience in hernia management, particularly hiatal hernias and large para-oesophageal hernias.  She has performed countless operations for repair of abdominal wall and groin hernias.  She is well versed in both open and laparoscopic methods and the use of different types of meshes for hernia repair.  She is thus able to ensure that each patient has the full knowledge of their condition to arrive at the best treatment for their problem. Ms Chang ensures that all aspects of a patient’s medical history and wishes are carefully considered and fully discussed to develop a plan of management individually tailored for her patients.
