Dr. Audrienne Sammut, a consultant in neonatal medicine, practices at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing at University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). She completed her medical studies at the University of Malta and pursued her training in neonatology at Cambridge University Hospitals. Subsequently, she underwent a fellowship in neonatal medicine at the Evelina Children’s Hospital before assuming her role as a neonatal consultant at UCLH and GOSH in 2020. Dr. Sammut serves as the preterm care lead at UCLH, focusing on enhancing care and outcomes for premature infants. Her particular interest lies in neuroprotection for premature babies, leading initiatives aimed at improving neurodevelopmental outcomes. She is the lead for the neurodevelopmental service for high-risk babies and complex neurological cases. Additionally, she co-leads the neonatal clinical guideline development group at UCLH and collaborates with GOSH to establish joint guidelines for standardised patient care across sites. Furthermore, Dr. Sammut is actively involved in professional organisations, serving as the co-lead of the clinical service provision stream at the British Association for Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow Up (BANNFU) group. In this role, she contributes to the development of national surveys and standards across various disciplines, including education, social, and health departments. Dr. Sammut holds an Associate Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and obtained her MRCPCH (UK) from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH). She earned her MD, Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, from the University of Malta.
