Professor Atul Gupta

Professor Atul Gupta is a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. He is also Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at King's College London. He trained in Paediatrics on the Yorkshire and Newcastle training programmes and subsequently completed Higher Specialist Training in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine in London at leading teaching hospitals including the Royal Brompton Hospital, Freeman Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He holds dual accreditation and is on the GMC specialist register for both General Paediatrics and Paediatric Respiratory Medicine.  He was awarded a research doctorate (MDRes) at Imperial College London, where he investigated the role of vitamin D in severe asthma. Professor Gupta's clinical and academic focus is on children with complex or life-limiting respiratory conditions, an area of growing public health importance. As Research and Innovation Lead for Child Health at King's, his work has driven national practice change. He has led studies that have enabled access to advanced treatments for children with few other safe or effective options. His research has contributed to the approval of new medications, including Tiotropium and Mepolizumab, for use in children with severe asthma. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, including in leading journals such as The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), and has authored textbook chapters and review articles on all aspects of paediatric respiratory medicine.
