Mr Aslam Shiraz

I am a Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist at Cambridge University Hospitals. I am a sub-specialist in the management of gynaecological cancers. I am also a fully accredited robotic gynaecology surgeon. I specialise in general gynaecology which includes the management of common gynaecological problems - heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual disorders, endometriosis, pelvic pain, fibroids and vulval skin lesions. I am also one of a few sub specialists, within the Cambridge area, in the management of gynaecological cancers, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulval and vaginal cancers. My particular interest is the early diagnosis of cervical cancer (my PhD research) and the utilisation of cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer. I have a high volume practice in the NHS where I perform multiple major cancer surgeries on a weekly basis. I am also part of a high volume colposcopy service. Alongside this I am part of a busy research programme that is involved in developing more sensitive tests for the early detection of HPV mediated cancers.
