Dr Asimina Gaglia

Dr Asimina Gaglia is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist with extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. She has been an NHS consultant since 2016 and is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, where she has served as Clinical Lead for Endoscopy for five years. In this role, she has responsibility for clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety within the endoscopy service. She also performs bowel cancer screening colonoscopies for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and sees private patients at Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield and Spire Manchester. Dr Gaglia has particular expertise in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection for the removal of large or complex bowel polyps. She has performed more than 4,000 colonoscopies and 6,000 gastroscopies. After graduating from the University of Patras Medical School, Dr Gaglia completed her specialist gastroenterology training in Greece. She subsequently undertook advanced fellowships in inflammatory bowel disease and therapeutic endoscopy at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. She joined the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology in 2013 and achieved accreditation as a Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist in 2015. Dr Gaglia has contributed to numerous scientific publications and international presentations. Her research has included gastro-oesophageal reflux, chronic constipation, bowel cancer prevention and advanced endoscopic removal of colorectal polyps. Alongside her clinical and academic work, Dr Gaglia is strongly committed to improving the safety, quality and efficiency of endoscopy services. She is known for her thorough, approachable and compassionate manner, taking time to listen to her patients, explain their condition clearly and involve them fully in decisions about their care.

Her specialist interests include gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhoea, inflammatory bowel disease, Barrett’s oesophagus,and the prevention and early detection of gastrointestinal cancers.
