Mr Ashtin Doorgakant

I graduated from Newcastle University in 2003. I completed my surgical training in the Mersey region and undertook a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. I joined Warrington Hospital as a consultant in 2019.  My current scope of practice includes the majority of disorders of the foot and ankle. This includes, but is not limited, to treatment of bunions, lesser toe deformities, Morton’s neuromas, arthritis of the big toe, midfoot, hindfoot and ankle, heel problems affecting the Achilles tendon or plantar fascia, foot deformities such as flatfeet (pes planus) or high-arched feet (cavovarus). I also treat fractures, tendon disorders and sports injuries in the foot and ankle as well as diabetic foot problems. For cases that require surgery, I offer open, minimally invasive and arthroscopic treatments depending on the condition.   In 2020, I completed the British Orthopaedic Association’s flagship Future Leaders Programme and developed an interest in human factors in surgery, which I run instructional courses on. I am also a full instructor on the European Trauma Course.   I am past governance and current education lead for the orthopaedic department in Warrington Hospital, roles which deepened my insight further in the delivery of high standard safe surgery.  I am actively involved in education, research and quality improvement and, to date, have over 25 peer reviewed publications, 2 book chapters and 1 book to my name.  I am past president of Mersey 58 society and current chairman of World Orthopaedic Concern UK.  Outside of work, I enjoy sports and spending time with my wonderful wife and 3 children.
