Mr Simpson is a dual fellowship-trained Consultant Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Surgeon with specific interests in complex upper limb reconstruction, innovation and medical education. He holds a substantive Consultant post with the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, having previously been a Consultant Upper Limb Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London. He also runs a London-based Medicolegal practice. He has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Data Science from the University of Manchester, a Masters in Trauma Science from St Bartholomew’s and The London School of Medicine, and a BA(Hons) and MA in Neuroscience from St John’s College, University of Cambridge. Mr Simpson maintains a productive academic interest, publishing regularly and having received both international and national research awards for my work. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and have given more than 70 international and national presentations. He reviews for Injury Journal, Shoulder & Elbow and the Journal of Experimental Orthopaedics, keeping my knowledge contemporaneous. Mr Simpson is a member of the NHS Specialised Services Working Group, planning the national framework for Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Surgery. He is a member of the SICOT Shoulder and Elbow Subcommittee and of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Education (BESS) Education Committee, allowing him to enhance patient care on a national and international basis. He is also faculty for the Kings Health Partners Executive Fellowship in Surgical Leadership and an exam writer for University College London Medical School. He interviews for the UK Specialist Orthopaedic Recruitment, and is invited faculty on related courses, including the Miller FRCS Revision Course. Mr Simpson is the Specialty Upper Limb Editor for Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and an Associate Editor for Shoulder & Elbow Journal. He is the founder and director of a number of national surgical skills courses and represents the charity Pain UK as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
