Dr Anu Kansal

Dr Anu Kansal is a Consultant in Pain Medicine at South Tees NHS Trust, with over 18 years of NHS experience and a full-time focus on pain medicine for the past four years. Originally trained in anaesthesia, she developed a strong interest in the long-term care of patients with chronic pain, which led her to specialise in pain medicine. Since becoming a consultant, she has established herself as a respected clinician, educator, and researcher in the field. Dr Kansal’s clinical practice is rooted in advanced pain interventions. She has a particular interest and expertise in performing image-guided procedures, including fluoroscopy (X-ray) guided spinal injections and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks. She is highly experienced in neuromodulation techniques—both spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation—and also provides intrathecal drug delivery therapy for the management of cancer-related pain and spasticity, offering patients highly specialised, targeted treatments when conventional approaches are insufficient. Her interventional skills are complemented by her strong foundation in anaesthesia and a multidisciplinary approach to pain management.

Her areas of special interest include neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and cancer-related pain. She runs dedicated specialist clinics for these conditions, providing comprehensive care that integrates pharmacological, interventional, and multidisciplinary therapies. Her expertise spans pharmacological management, interventional procedures, and the coordination of multidisciplinary treatments including physiotherapy, psychology, and rehabilitation. Beyond clinical practice, Dr Kansal is actively engaged in research and medical education.
