I am a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. My practice includes routine and complex joint replacements as well redo surgery (or revision) of hip and knee replacements, key hole surgery to the knee and injections of both joints.
I have recently completed a visit to the visit the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre, where I learned about the muscle preserving SPAIRE approach which I have brought to my practice.
Following my undergraduate training at the Royal Free Hospital, London, I returned to my native Yorkshire for my basic and then higher surgical training. I had sub-specialist fellowship training as the John Charnley Fellow training under Prof Peter Kay and Prof Martyn Porter, at, Wrightington Hospital, and subsequently as a British Orthopaedic Association Transitional Fellow at Airedale Hospital. After my fellowship training I was appointed as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon in Barnsley Hospital where I am now clinical lead.
I was awarded a research based doctorate where I studied leg length inequality following hip replacements and am a visiting senior research fellow to the University of Leeds and NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre with numerous publications and presentations. Through my research I have developed a device to improve the accuracy of x-rays take prior to hip replacement.
I also have an interest in sports medicine. I am a medical officer to Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Union and Leeds Rhino Rugby League where I am a pitch-side doctor. I have recently been appointed to the medical faculty of the Rugby Football League.
To ensure that I maintain the highest standards, all my joint replacement operations are submitted to the National Joint Registry and my surgeon specific data is available to view on line.
