I went to medical school at King's College London, qualifying in 1985. I initially trained as a GP and then changed my career plan and went into Obstetrics and Gynaecology. My initial training was in London working in various hospital centered around King's College Hospital and the south east of London, passing my MRCOG exam in 1993. I then moved to Cambridge and completed my training at Addenbrookes, Peterborough and Ipswich hospitals before been appointed a consultant in Ipswich. I have been a consultant for over 20 years. I became a Fellow of the RCOG (FRCOG) in 2005. I am one of the most senior consultants in the East of England. Although trained very much as a generalist who can turn his hand to most things in the specialty I am nationally best known for my vaginal and minimal access surgical skills and treating female prolapse and incontinence problems as well as menstrual dysfunction and pelvic pain. I have a large general gynaecological practice with a particular focus of managing urogynaecological problems (female incontinence and prolapse) and menstrual dysfunction. I offer the full range of surgical procedures to manage these and other common gynaecological problems. In addition to my clinical interests I have always been interested in risk management and clinical governance and am recognized as a leading UK medico-legal expert in obstetrics and gynaecology and acknowledged as someone who gives a straight forward and objective opinion (both medico-legally and clinically). I have a Claimant/Defendant split of 20:80. Aside my clinical and medico-legal expertise I am actively involved in both undergraduate and post graduate medical education. I am a member of the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Norwich Medical School and an undergraduate examiner for both Cambridge and Norwich medical schools. In addition to my medical school commitment I have been a clinical examiner for the RCOG for over 10 years and a member of the RCOG examination committee since 2017 and the Chair of the RCOG Part 2 EMQ Committee since 2019. Nationally I sit on the RCOG Council as the elected Fellows representative for the East of England and am the Council representative on the RCOG Finance and Governance Committee.
