Regenerative therapies form a core part of Andrew’s practice specifically PRP and N-stride. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are used to relieve the symptoms of persistent and on-going tendon pain. The platelets and plasma are believed to have natural healing properties that encourage the damaged tendons to repair and heal. The N-stride injection is used to treat osteoarthritis of the hip and knee and was developed to provide relief from pain without surgery. It has been shown to be most effective in people with mild-moderate osteoarthritis of the hip and knee.
Andrew has a specialist interest in minimally invasive hip and knee surgery and is one of the first cohort of surgeons in the country to use the MAKO robotic-arm system. The robot works alongside the surgeon from the pre-surgery planning stage through to assisting in the surgery, improving accuracy and precision. This state-of-the-art system allows the surgeon to perform a total hip or knee replacement using a minimally invasive technique that causes less damage to muscles, reduces post-operative pain and speeds recovery. In relation to minimally invasive hip replacement surgery, Andrew is happy to discuss the risks and benefits of both the mini posterior approach and direct anterior approach.
For some hip & knee replacements Andrew uses the 3D printed patient customised Symbios Hip and iTotal Conformis knee implants, which are individually designed and manufactured for you, providing a perfect, customised fit that mimics the natural shape of your knee.
Andrew dedicates a significant amount of his private practice to lower limb sporting injuries encompassing a comprehensive review of the whole weight bearing lower limb – pelvis to toes. Injuries to the pelvis, hip, knee and ankle are common and there are various treatment options available.
