This information is provided by Mr Andrew Bing.
I have been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2008, with an interest in foot & ankle and limb reconstruction surgery. I also have an interest in infection work and set up and chair our infection MDT. I am one of the surgical tutors at the hospital and the Designated Individual for our anatomy department. I qualified from the University of Bristol medical school in 1995, undertook house jobs in the south-west then SHO training in Leicester, before moving to Shropshire in 2002 to undertake my registrar training in trauma and orthopaedics on the prestigious Oswestry/Stoke rotation. I have been involved in training at all stages of my career – I was an anatomy demonstrator during my time in Leicester, I taught medical students during my SHO and registrar years, then, as a senior trainee in Oswestry, subsequently a junior consultant, I was heavily involved in the registrar training programme and took over the running of our FRCS examination course for 10 years. I have co-convened and taught on the Oswestry foot and ankle and Oswestry anatomy courses since becoming a consultant. I have also been faculty on several BOFAS principles courses. I have been an examiner for the FRCS Trauma & Orthopaedics examination for over 7 years now and am a regular member of ARCP panels for assessment of trainee progress. I have also been a reference surgeon involved in training other surgeons in ankle replacements. I have been a consultant supervisor for PhD students and have been a supervisor for SSC projects for medical students from Keele University. More recently I was appointed as one of the Clinical Sub Deans in Oswestry for Chester Medical School and also lecture at Aston University for their undergraduate medical student programme. With colleagues in the foot and ankle department I am involved in running fellowships for senior trainees with an interest in foot and ankle surgery. I have a high-volume elective foot and ankle practice with a particular interest in ankle arthritis and ankle replacement. Over the last few years I have undertaken most ankle replacements on the national joint registry. I set up and run our regional ankle arthritis network meetings and receive a significant number of referrals for complex ankle replacement and revision ankle replacement. I also receive referrals from nationally for young patients with juvenile inflammatory arthritis with ankle arthritis. I regularly receive complex tertiary referrals for other foot and ankle cases and initiated our complex clinics attended by local surgeons.
