Dr Anastasia Vamvakidou

Dr Anastasia Vamvakidou studied at the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. She joined the UK for her postgraduate training and completed her Cardiology Specialty training in the London Northwest Deanery in 2022, subspecialising in advanced echocardiography. In 2018 she completed a Master’s degree in Cardiology and Management in Brighton University. Her PhD at Imperial College London focused on the value of stress echocardiography for the assessment of aortic stenosis and has been pivotal in establishing the use of transvalvular flow rate for the diagnosis and prognosis of aortic stenosis. She has published 26 original papers in peer-reviewed journals in the field of valvular heart disease and stress echocardiography.  She currently works as a Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College in London and holds a position as Honorary Senior Lecturer with Imperial College London. She is the lead for the Echocardiography module of the MSc Medical Ultrasound Course in Imperial College London. She currently holds a Trustee position with the British Society of Echocardiography.  She is in the Editorial Board of the European Heart Journal-Case Reports, European Heart Journal-Valvular and Structural Heart Disease as well as the Echo Research and Practice journal.  Her areas of expertise include valvular heart disease, structural and perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography for valvular heart disease, myocardial contrast echocardiography, endocarditis and valvular heart disease association with heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia and arrhythmia management.
