Mr Altan Omer is a highly experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW), where he has been practising since 2019. He qualified in Medicine from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ‘Carol Davila’ in Bucharest, Romania, before completing specialist urology training at the renowned Institute of Uronephrology and Renal Transplant (Fundeni). In recognition of his expertise, he was awarded Fellowship of the European Board of Urology in 2016 and joined the UK Specialist Register for Urology in 2017 (GMC number: 7118760). Following his move to the UK, Mr Omer undertook advanced fellowship training in robotic urological surgery at leading centres including the Lister Hospital, Stevenage, and Oxford University Hospitals. He specialises in minimally invasive and robotic techniques, offering patients the benefits of shorter recovery times, reduced pain, and improved surgical precision. Mr Omer has a particular clinical interest in the early detection and treatment of prostate and bladder cancer. He has published widely in these areas and regularly contributes to national and international conferences, ensuring his practice reflects the latest evidence-based techniques. At UHCW, he has led significant service innovations to improve patient experience and outcomes, including introducing a local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsy service—making diagnosis more accurate, safer, and more comfortable—and establishing robotic-assisted radical cystectomy for bladder cancer surgery. He serves as Lead Clinician for Urological Cancers and is a Clinical Champion for Prostate Cancer UK. He is also leading initiatives to deliver faster diagnosis pathways and is particularly committed to improving access to early cancer detection and reducing healthcare inequalities. Mr Omer is known for his patient-centred approach, taking time to ensure patients fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and providing personalised care tailored to individual needs. Outside of his clinical work, he enjoys blues and rock music, plays the guitar, and keeps active through CrossFit. He is married with two children.
