Mr Alfredo Tonsi

Mr. Alfredo Tonsi is a highly esteemed Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with a distinguished focus on the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease, bowel cancer, and a variety of benign proctological conditions. His expertise extends to complex anal fistula, hemorrhoids, anal pain, and rectal prolapse. Mr. Tonsi's surgical skills are diverse, incorporating both laparoscopic and open techniques for abdominal wall hernias, including those related to inguinal hernias. His journey in surgical training began with Higher Surgical Training in London and the Southwest Thames region, where he received extensive education in advanced minimally invasive surgical methods. He continued to enhance his expertise through specialized training in complex anal fistula and inflammatory bowel surgery at prestigious institutions such as St. Mark’s Hospital, St. George's, and St. Thomas' Hospital in London. Beyond his clinical and research achievements, Mr. Tonsi is recognised nationally as a trainer in colonoscopy, having obtained accreditation from the JAG Endoscopy Training System. This role underscores his commitment to educating the next generation of medical professionals. Currently, Mr. Tonsi leads the Surgical division for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. In this capacity, he collaborates intensively with the IBD dietetic team and gastroenterology colleagues to optimize the preoperative care of patients battling Crohn's disease. Additionally, he contributes to academic advancement as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Outside of his professional commitments, Mr. Tonsi has a rich array of personal interests. He is an avid football fan, cherishing long walks and cycling through the picturesque South Downs. His passion for the arts is reflected in his enthusiasm for opera and classical ballet. As a dedicated season ticket holder, he revels in watching Brighton and Hove Albion play in the Premier League at the Amex Stadium. Furthermore, his appreciation for the arts is showcased through his involvement with Grange Park Opera in Surrey during summer evenings.
