Mr Alfonso Vasquez-Perez

I am an experienced eye surgeon with interest in Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery. After finishing my Ophthalmology core training in Barcelona I completed two fellowships in Cornea and External Diseases in the United Kingdom; first at the Sussex Eye Hospital (Brighton) and then at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital (London) where I continue to expand my expertise as a substantive consultant. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and hold all the UK and European professional qualifications to practice as a consultant ophthalmologist.  My areas of expertise include the management of complex cases of cataract and cornea, anterior segment reconstruction, all types of corneal transplantation and Keratoprosthesis. During my career I have developed a good number of new techniques and innovations in Cornea transplantation for which I have received awards and distinctions. Currently at Moorfields I have set up a highly specialised Service : the osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis (OOKP) to restore sight in patients with cornea blindness available only in few centres around the world. In addition to my clinical duties I have a special interest for education and research; as a consultant I have trained many fellows from different countries and during my career I have produced over forty publications in my subspecialty including three book chapters.
