I graduated in 1996 from Trivandrum Medical College in, India. After completing my internship I moved to UK. I completed the basic surgical training in South Wales and research fellowship in Birmingham. I joined the higher surgical training program in Liverpool with a special interest in Colorectal Surgery. After completing the specialist training I spent 18 months in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, Western Australia as a fellow in Colorectal Surgery. On return to the UK in 2010 I was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon in St Helens & Knowsley NHS trusts. Since appointment as a consultant I am a driving force within my department and I have established the service for both benign and malignant diseases of the small bowel, colon and rectum. I perform more than 70 major colorectal resections in a year of which more than 75% is performed laparoscopically. Over the last 10 years I have performed more than 1000 major colorectal resections and have one of the highest elective colorectal cancer resection rates in the north of England. I have also performed over 800 laparoscopic cholecystectomies during this period. I am also part of the Abdominal Wall reconstruction team with special interest in Parastomal Hernia. In a short period of time I have taken up the role of Lead Clinician for Colorectal cancer services in NHS trust. I am actively involved in teaching and am a faculty member for both regional and national surgical courses.
