This information is provided by Mr Adam Booth.
I qualified as a doctor from the University of Birmingham in 1989. As part of my undergraduate training I studied at Harvard Medical School. I also received a First Class degree in Physiology from the University of Birmingham in 1986. I first worked in ophthalmology at the Randwick Hospital, Sydney under the teaching of Professor Hollows, as part of a University of New South Wales Surgical rotation. My postgraduate training was on the Yorkshire Ophthalmology Training Rotation. In the middle of my training I took a sabbatical for 3 years and completed my PhD thesis on the Genetics of Glaucoma at the University of Leeds and the University of California, San Francisco. I gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1994. After core ophthalmology training I spent a year as Clinical Glaucoma Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. This gave me highly specialised training in all aspects of the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. I have been an NHS consultant at The Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth since 2003. I have been the Glaucoma Lead in Plymouth since my appointment in 2003. I have also been the Clinical Director of the Royal Eye Infirmary and am now the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Clinical Tutor. I am a Lead Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and have examined widely in India, Jordan, Oman, Malta and the UK. Outside work I enjoy sailing, cycling, tennis and squash.
