Professor Abdul Rashid Gatrad OBE is a Consultant Paediatrician with over 40 years’ experience in the NHS and private practice. He qualified from the University of Leeds and completed postgraduate training in the North West of England, gaining wide-ranging experience across paediatric subspecialties including cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, dermatology, neurology and child psychiatry. He was appointed Consultant Paediatrician at Walsall Manor Hospital in 1983, where he contributed to improving neonatal outcomes and helped develop early paediatric assessment services. He has held senior roles including Clinical Director, postgraduate tutor, examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and membership of national ethics committees. e is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and was awarded the Feedom of the Borough of Walsall for services to children in the borough and beyond. In 20010 he was awarded an OBE for services to children’s health, particularly in improving access and care for ethnic minority communities. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored textbooks on cross-cultural care. He holds professorial roles with the University of Wolverhampton, University of Kentucky, USA and Birmingham (UK), and has received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Wolverhampton. In addition to his clinical work, he is the founder of the Midland International Aid Trust and has led humanitarian medical projects in over 20 countries.
