GMC reg: 3139240Professor David Warwick is Consultant Hand Surgeon at University Hospital Southampton since 1998 as well as visiting Hand Surgeon to the States of Jersey & Bailiwick of Guernsey. He is Club Surgeon for Southampton Football Club. David has looked after hand problems for many elite teams such as Southampton Football Club, Hampshire County Cricket Club, GB Hockey, GB Sailing, British Diving. His particular clinical interests are Dupuytren's disease (in which topic he holds a Doctorate) , rheumatology, distal radio-ulnar joint problems, hand trauma & wrist instabilities. He works with leading law firms to provide advice on the medical aspects of injury and medical negligence. David was born in 1962 and attended Southend High School for boys in Essex, where he obtained A grades in Latin, Greek and Ancient History Advanced Level studies, before reading Medicine at Southampton Medical School (1980-86). He is married and has three children. He learned to fly with the RAF. He enjoys driving his sports car, cycling, skiing, keep fit and travelling. Charity: He was a bronze donor for the University of Southampton Centre for Cancer Immunology. He has supported a child at the Albella Children's home in Northern India for many years. He is an Advocate for Trinity, a charity for the homeless in Winchester. Training: David trained in basic surgery in Bristol, and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1989 in London. He then specialised in Orthopaedic Surgery for the next seven years as a Registrar and Senior Registrar on the South West Regional Training Scheme. He qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon (FRCS Orth) in 1996 and then undertook specialised training in Hand & Wrist surgery in Oxford UK and Sydney Australia. He was appointed as a Consultant at Southampton University Hospitals in 1998 and professor in 2013. Awards: His teaching, research, and administrative contributions were rewarded by the University of Southampton with an Honorary Professorship in 2013. His NHS contribution has been rewarded with a Bronze Clinical Excellence award in 2012 renewed in 2016 and 2021. He was awarded the Gold Medal in the European Diploma of Hand Surgery in 2004 and was awarded the Hunterian Professorship in 1998 for his work on Orthopaedic Thrombosis. Professional Contributions: David Is the current Secretary General of the International Federation for Societies for Surgery of the Hand, past President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and past President not the British Association of Hand Therapists. he was Chairman of the Federation of European Hand Surgery Societies Training Committee (2009-15), Academic Work: David has published over 80 papers in peer reviewed journals with an H index of 34. He has written 36 book chapters and has edited 12 textbooks
