Ian Sabin was a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Barts and the London NHS Trust from 1992-2019, as well as a member of the Neurosurgical Unit at the Wellington Hospital. Training After obtaining an Honours Degree in Pathology in 1978, he completed his basic medical training in 1981 at the University of Dundee, winning the RC Alexander Memorial Prize in Clinical Surgery. He subsequently joined the surgical rotation at St Bartholomew’s Hospital which included an attachment at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. In 1986 he obtained Fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and of England before starting research at the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square. In 1988 he returned to Scotland for Clinical Neurosurgical training in Edinburgh before returning to London as Senior Registrar on the Queen Square rotation. He was appointed a Consultant Neurosurgeon to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1992. Current Positions Clinical: Consultant Neurosurgeon, The Wellington Hospital, St John’s Wood. Medical Director of the London Gamma Knife Centre Managerial: Hospital: Over the past 25 years he has held a number of roles including• Training Director• Associate Clinical Director• Lead Clinician. Royal College of Surgeons of England. • Past neurosurgical Tutor with responsibility for post-graduate education organised by the College• Past member of the Court of Examiners• Past member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Neurosurgery Clinical Interests His clinical and research interests relate to the skull base and spine: Skull Base• Pituitary surgery (particularly endoscopic techniques)• Acoustic Neuromas • Meningiomas• Trigeminal Neuralgia• Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Spine• Cervical disc surgery• Minimally invasive lumbar spine surgery
