Following the publication of the NHS’ Long Term Plan, Matt James, Chief Executive of the Private Healthcare Information Network, commented:

“Greater transparency of the quality, standards and outcomes achieved by healthcare services is key to giving patients greater control over the care they receive. The commitment made in the NHS’ Long Term Plan to publish aggregated metrics about NHS performance and services is ambitious, yet will help deliver a service which is truly patient-centred.
“As PHIN publishes performance measures on privately funded healthcare in the UK – in line with our mandate from the Competition and Markets Authority, we will continue to work alongside the NHS to develop a coherent approach to measuring and publishing performance information across NHS and private healthcare. All patients deserve accurate and comparable information about the quality of care they are being offered, regardless of where they receive that care. It is important that private healthcare aligns to and keeps pace with changes in the NHS.”
