David Stewart, Executive Director, Markets and Mergers at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has today written to the private healthcare market sector to update it on enforcement action to ensure compliance with the Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014 (the Order).

In the letter he thanks the many hospitals and consultants who are already supplying their data to PHIN and explains the steps being taken where this is not the case.

Ian Gargan, PHIN Chief Executive, said:

“We work closely with the CMA at all times and welcome this latest letter to our colleagues in the healthcare sector. It recognises the great work many of them are doing to meet the requirements of the Order and help patients make more informed healthcare choices.

“The Order deadline is getting closer, and we are working hard to help anyone (hospital or consultant) who is still to meet their obligations. If you have questions about what you need to do or are struggling to achieve compliance, then please call or email us.

"PHIN is here to collaborate and help meet patients' and the healthcare sector’s data goals"

CMA takes hospital escalation action

PHIN is grateful to all the independent healthcare providers who are complying with their obligations to submit data to PHIN.

However, as outlined above, there remain some hospitals and consultants who are not yet meeting their obligations and in the letter published today, the CMA has named a hospital which is not fully compliant and against which it is beginning escalation action.

We have already begun working with the provider who has responded positively to ensure that the required data will now be submitted.

At PHIN, we continue to work to help with compliance issues and invite anyone not already doing so to get in touch to begin the data submission process as soon as possible.
