Choosing where and how to have your baby is an important decision. If you are thinking about paying for private maternity care, PHIN’s new guide explains the choices available, what they could cost and the questions worth asking before you make a decision.
Private maternity care can give you more choice over where you receive care and who looks after you. Depending on the provider, this could include additional scans and tests, private antenatal and postnatal care, or a privately funded birth led by a consultant or midwife.
You can also combine private services with NHS maternity care. For example, you might choose to pay for an additional scan or private midwife while continuing to receive the rest of your care through the NHS.
