Download our updated information on private care in the UK

Our latest data describing private elective care in the UK for 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022 is now available to download. The latest datasheets include statistics on private hospital patient volumes, length of stay, never events, infections, health outcomes and hospital reported adverse events. 

The updated statistics show:

  • There were a total of 799,915 private spells in the UK.
  • 26 Never Events were reported, where 284 sites out of 648 have provided complete data.
  • 222 healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) were reported, for while 203 could have a rate calculated. For the 203, the rate of per 100,000 bed days was 16.8.
  • There were 105 surgical site infections reported. The percentage risk of a patient developing an infection remained at 0.2% from the previous period.
  • The percentage of patients reporting positive health improvement following hip replacement (primary) surgery (undertaken as a primary procedure) was at 98.3% in this period.

All the aggregated statistics are available to download below and include NHS Volume and Length of Stay delivered in independent hospitals over the same period.
