There were over 9 million episodes of acute elective care in 2021 in the UK. Of these, over 700,000 were privately funded at either independent or NHS sites. That is just over 7% of the episodes across the year.

Our new Annual Report looks at some of the data we’ve collected about those episodes, including the most common specialties, patient demographics and fee information.

It also outlines our activities to help achieve the Competition and Markets Authority Private Healthcare Order, including our work engaging with the wider healthcare sector – both private and NHS. We also set our achievements throughout the year and a summary of our plans for 2023.

As a not-for-profit organisation, PHIN is always keen to provide transparency in how it spends its members’ funds, and our financial details are outlined in the Financial Statements section of the Annual Report.

The report was officially launched at our AGM on Tuesday 6 December and is available to download below.
