Can my GP refer me privately?
Yes. If your GP thinks private treatment may be appropriate, they can usually refer you to a consultant in private practice. You’ll be able to choose which consultant or hospital you’d like to be referred to.
If you already have a consultant in mind, you can discuss this with your GP when requesting a referral.

Do I need private medical insurance?
No. While many people access private healthcare through medical insurance, others choose to pay for treatment themselves.
If you’re paying for treatment yourself, it’s worth asking for a written quotation before treatment begins so you understand exactly what’s included. If you have insurance, check with your insurer what your policy covers and whether there are any limits or excesses that apply.
