Having recently created the CFO role in the organisation, PHIN now requires a Finance Manager / Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day finance function. PHIN currently operates with outsourced bookkeepers who manage day-to-day transactions and accounting.
The Finance Manager / Financial Controller is a permanent role. The individual will be responsible for the management of the outsourced function, as well as being a key partner of the Leadership Team.
The role will be responsible for:
- Day-to-day finance processes with the support of the outsourced bookkeepers
- Budgeting
- Supporting the CFO with various short-term projects that need financial input.
Specific responsibilities
- Accountable for the day-to-day finance function and internal controls (AP, AR, payroll, treasury, cash management, tax, budgeting, FP&A).
- Own the month end process and prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial policies.
- Be the first point of contact for the external auditors and support delivery of the annual audit in a timely manner.
- Lead on the annual budget process, working with key stakeholders and departments to support PHINs strategic objectives.
- Implement and maintain robust financial controls and policies to ensure the function operates effectively, efficiently and accurately.
- Responsible for procurement, supplier management and all commercial contracting.
- Responsible for insurance, rents, rates and other corporate overheads.
- Support the CFO on financial queries, discussions and negotiations with stakeholders on funding business cases.
- Support the CFO with Board, Audit & Risk Committee and external stakeholder reporting
- Support the CFO and PHIN departments with the production of the Annual Report.
- Providing any other ad hoc support to the business as required.

- Improve the debt collection process
- Support the CFO in building resource/capacity modelling
- Support the CFO with a review of treasury functions
- Automation and improvement of processes to enhance the scalability of the organisation
Essential skills and experience
- Relevant experience of owning transactional finance functions
- Relevant experience of the management and control of budgets and working within a finance function
- Financial modelling experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for a wide range of settings and contexts
- IT competence in MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook/PowerPoint)
- Demonstrates confidence in working with people from a range of backgrounds
- Strategic, analytical and creative thinker
- Demonstrates a clear communication style
- Understanding of confidentiality
- Outcome orientated and solutions focused
- Has a high degree of personal integrity
Desirable skills
- Educated to degree level (Bachelor’s or Master’s) or equivalent
- Chartered Accountant
- Understanding of working within an organisation guided by certified information standards and information sharing protocols.
- Knowledge of a range of public and/or private sector procurement processes and contract management
- Knowledge of the UK healthcare sector
- Experience of budgeting and FP&A
- Experience of using Xero accounting software
