At PHIN, we spoke to some of our team so you can read about the real stories of the people who make our organisation great. This is Jason's 'My PHIN story...'

Please tell us about your role at PHIN.

My role at PHIN, as the new Digital Communications Lead, is to develop content that contributes to all aspects of PHIN's external communications. This includes supporting member communications and professional engagement. I’m excited to join the team at PHIN to help ensure that the organisation’s external voice is engaging, accurate and consistent across numerous media channels as well as to create and deliver effective communications campaigns.

Where are you from and what were you doing before joining PHIN?

I’m originally from Johannesburg, situated on the eastern plateau area known as the Highveld in sunny South Africa, however, I have lived in the United Kingdom for the past 8 years. I'm fortunate to be able to call both SA and the UK my home. Before joining PHIN, I was working as a senior communications officer at an international political federation in Whitehall.

I graduated from university in 2012 and obtained my BA Degree in creative brand communication & strategy. With a strong creative and written skillset, over the last few years, I’ve specialised in creating digital content and in my previous role as a senior comms officer I was responsible for growing digital media engagement, dealing with internal members & external stakeholders in all things comm related.

What attracted you to join PHIN?

I wanted to utilise my comms expertise, but in a new field (not politics), I came across a job advert within the private healthcare sector for a Digital Communications Lead at PHIN. The role interested me as I felt it would be a great step up in my career. A highlight for me was during the interview process. Not only was it conducted in such a professional manner, but I also met members of the Executive & Management Teams and their authenticity and honesty when speaking about PHIN’s work, especially around providing reliable reporting from data, really solidified my eagerness to join PHIN. So, a big thank you to Jonathan, Mona, Alistair and Megan.

What is the best thing about working at PHIN?

Hybrid working is a definite advantage. I enjoy that I can split my time between home and the office to meet up with my co-workers. I truly feel appreciated and accepted by everyone at PHIN. I work with a fantastic team who have welcomed me with open arms. They are always there to assist and respond to any inquiries I might have, which is crucial when beginning any new work.
