Miss Ivanova has completed her comprehensive training in Ophthalmology in Sofia, Bulgaria. She has further enhanced her training by completing two prestigious vitreoretinal fellowships, one in Glasgow and another in Manchester. She is competent in small-gauge vitrectomies for rhegmatogenous retinal detachments, macular surgery, trauma, intraocular foreign bodies, endophthalmitis, complicated cataract surgery and complex tractional detachments, having performed over 2000 surgeries. She also has the experience in managing paediatric vitreoretinal cases. Following her fellowships she became a locum consultant VR surgeon at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, where she managed the vitreoretinal service singlehandedly. Subsequently, she was appointed as a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. Two and half years later she left Newcastle to join the vitreoretinal department at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. In addition to providing a high quality vitreoretinal service, she is committed to teaching and training of junior staff. She has completed quality improvement projects in the departments she has worked. She audits her surgical outcomes regularly and her success rates in retinal detachment repair and macular hole surgery are above published standards. Following awards gained at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, she maintained a keen interest in research with her PhD. Her research has resulted in 15 papers and numerous presentations across local, national and international forums.
