GMC reg: 2921554I graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 1984. I trained in Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent especially in Gastroenterology before starting research in August 1988 into Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis). In 1994, I was appointed at the Countess of Chester Hospital as a Consultant Physician with a special interest in diseases of the GI tract, liver and pancreas. Over the past 25 years, I have become expert in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the liver, the biliary tract and the pancreas. I have a special interest in gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary endoscopy and regularly teach these procedures to other consultants and trainee specialists. I became an honorary Professor at the University of Chester in 2003 and subsequently became Professor and Dean of Medicine at the University of Chester in June 2017.

Clinical special interests: Chronic indigestion including gastro-oesophageal reflux. Chronic diarrhoea/constipation. Swallowing difficulties. Unexplained weight loss. Unexplained abdominal pain. Malabsorption in particular coeliac disease and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and microscopic colitis). Diseases of the liver, biliary tree and pancreas. Endoscopic areas of interest and expertise: Diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy including removal of large polyps, stricture dilatation and stent insertion. Endoscopic treatment of gastroparesis by Botox injection. Therapeutic ERCP including removal of gall stones (sphincterotomy/sphincteroplasty) from bile ducts and stent insertion
