Professor Saurabh Jain

Saurabh Jain is a Professor of Ophthalmology at UCL Medical School and a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Trust, with an honorary consultant role at UCLH hospitals in London, UK. He also serves as the academic lead for Year Two and the Senior Personal Tutor at the Royal Free site for UCL Medical School. His clinical expertise includes adult strabismus, paediatric ophthalmology, and cataract surgery. He began his ophthalmology career at King's College London and continued as a specialist registrar at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he advanced his training with a fellowship in adult strabismus surgery. He further specialized in paediatric ophthalmology at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. A dedicated educator, he has mentored numerous residents and fellows, earning recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) by University College London and a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). He leads two well-regarded training courses: the London Eye Course and the Binocular Vision Course. As a senior international examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, he also examines for the International Council of Ophthalmology and the European Board of Ophthalmology. He is an active council member of the European Strabismus Association (ESA) and contributes to the research and adult strabismus committees of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS). His research interests focus on strabismus and ocular motility. He has published extensively, contributing to numerous research papers, textbook chapters, and books. He is a frequent presenter at international conferences and has delivered several invited lectures. At the Royal Free, Whittington, and UCLH hospitals, he manages a busy clinical practice, combining patient care with teaching, research, and educational activities.
