Professor Michael Henein

Professor Michael Henein is a highly experienced Cardiologist, with expertise in Cardiac CT/MRI and General Cardiology. He currently serves as a Professor of Cardiology at the Umeå Heart Centre, Umeå University in Sweden, and also as a Professor of Cardiology at Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent, UK. Previously, he worked as a Consultant in Cardiology and Echocardiography, leading the Echocardiography Department at the Royal Brompton Hospital and completing a five-year Clinical Senior Lectureship at Imperial College London. Professor Henein has also established an MSc course in Cardiology at Canterbury Christ Church University and has tutored and graduated 100 students with quality MSc theses. Professor Henein's research interests include coronary calcification, heart failure, and valvular heart disease, and his team is currently working on a number of research projects related to these areas. He has supervised 19 completed PhD theses and is currently supervising five others, with most students from abroad. Professor Henein has published over 350 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has written and edited three textbooks and many chapters, including two in the Oxford Textbook of Medicine on pericardial diseases and valvular heart diseases. In addition to his academic and research achievements, Professor Henein is also the Founder and Editor in Chief of the International Cardiovascular Forum Journal and a Guest Editor for the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and the Journal of Diagnostics. He aspires to supervise more international PhD students to establish strong academic collaboration with other universities worldwide.
