Born and raised in Scotland I went to Edinburgh Medical School in 1993. Most of my post graduate training has been in the South East Scotland area and this is also where I completed my specialist training in orthopaedic surgery. I undertook a fellowship in Brisbane Australia in Computer Assisted Knee and Hip Replacement surgery before taking up my current consultant post at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 2010. I have been heavily involved in training the next generation of surgeons and have run cadaveric surgical training courses all over Europe and the world. I have also collaborated extensively with the orthopaedic industry to develop the next generation of orthopaedic technology from new implants in revision knee surgery to the latest generation of computer and robotic assisted joint replacement solutions. I have had a lifelong passion for sport and have represented my country in gymnastics and rugby. In 2007 I completed Iron Man South Africa. I believe strongly in the multiple health benefits of exercise. Currently I live in Edinburgh with my wife and 3 children.

Special clinical interests
I have a high volume orthopaedic practice replacing hip and knee joints for the first time (primary surgery). I specialise in redo hip and knee surgery (revision) and also have expertise in dealing with hip replacement in complicated situations following trauma or childhood conditions such as developmental dysplasia (DDH), Perthes disease and slipped upper femoral epiphysis (SUFE). I regularly perform joint replacements with computer assistance and have been performing robotic hip and partial knee replacement since April 2017.
