Mr Nick Fernandez

I qualified as a doctor at the London Hospital in 1976 and then carried my surgical training in various Hospitals in the South of England (Chichester,Hastings, London ,Exeter, Bath, Portsmouth, Southampton and Alton). I obtained FRCS . I then obtained FRCS in Orthopaedics in 1989. I completed my Orthopaedic training in 1993 and was appointed as Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Initially to Weymouth District Hospital and latterly to Dorset County Hospital. I resigned in 2015. I now work at BMI Winterbourne Hospital, Dorchester, BMI TheHarbour in Poole and Circle Reading. I see both private and NHS patients at both sites. When initially appointed I worked as a General Orthopaedic Surgeon (including paediatrics). I carried out shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, foot ,ankle and spinal surgery. As the department expanded I developed a subspecialist interest in the shoulder and maintained a a general orthopaedic practice as I felt this was important when dealing with Trauma patients . Subsequently I discontinued performing more complex procedures such as revision joint replacement ,complex hand and foot surgery. I feel this approach has given me a holistic approach to patient care and I regularly refer patients with more complex problems to colleagues with a special expertise in that area
