GMC reg: 4526030Mr Hunt qualified from University College London Medical School in 1998. Whilst there he undertook an additional year of study and gained a BSc in Medical Physics and Bioengineering. Mr Hunt trained in the Southwest and in all aspects of general surgery before specialising in breast surgery. He has trained in all aspects of breast surgery including techniques for breast conservation and breast reconstruction where appropriate using either implants or autologous techniques (using the patient’s own tissue). Where appropriate, and if this is the patient’s best option, Mr. Hunt undertakes joint operating with plastic surgical colleagues. Mr. Hunt also undertakes contralateral surgery for symmetrisation after breast cancer surgery. He worked as consultant breast surgeon to the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust prior his appointment as Consultant breast Surgeon in Cheltenham in 2013. In order to provide better care for his patients, Mr. Hunt undertook a two year period of study in medical imaging after he was appointed as consultant surgeon. He was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in medical imaging, which accredits him to undertake diagnostic ultrasound on his patients. This facilitates diagnosis of many breast conditions at the clinic appointment, and if patients require a biopsy, this can be taken at the same time. Mr. Hunt is lead breast surgeon for the NHS in Gloucestershire, leading a team of seven consultants and other health care professionals. He is also Director of Breast Screening for Gloucestershire, which invites women from the ages of 50-70 for mammograms to detect breast cancer in it’s early stages. Mr. Hunt is also recognised as a trainer by the General Medical Council (GMC). He was awarded a Masters in Medical Education by the University of Bristol in 2013, with an interest in learning in the operating theatre. He undertakes training of senior registrars on their journey to becoming consultants themselves. He is also a tutor for the University of Bristol Medical School and teaches undergraduates on the medical course.
