I was educated in Oundle School in Peterborough. I graduated with a medical degree from Charing Cross Medical School, University of London in 1991. Specialist training in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery ensued in the Northern Rotation in Newcastle. I went on to undertake specialist orthopaedic training with a Fellowship in Shoulder and Sports Orthopaedics in Edinburgh. My experience in shoulder surgery was further enhanced in a Travelling Fellowship to Canada and the USA in 2002, where I had the privilege of working with leading sports orthopaedic surgeons, Dr Christopher Harner from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre and Dr Anthony Miniaci from the University of Toronto, Canada. Many of the practices that I observed have been incorporated subsequently into my consultant practice. I have 15 years' experience as a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon, initially at Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, and James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. In 2016, I moved to North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals where I have the privilege of working in a thriving Upper Limb unit. I strongly believe that a modern shoulder surgical service should provide proven contemporary surgical techniques but with the support of a robust multidisciplinary team. I am committed to providing high quality of service with research and audit at the core. Nearly every aspect of my surgical practice have been reviewed through audits or retrospective surveys. Results of rotator cuff repairs, acromioclavicular excisions, frozen shoulder surgery, shoulder instability surgery, proximal humeral fracture surgery and shoulder replacements have been presented in national meetings and international forums. I also publish regularly in peer-reviewed journals. I continue to participate in research and audits, contributing participants to various trials.

My area of interest encompasses all aspects of shoulder surgery, including arthroscopic (key hole) surgery, shoulder replacements and shoulder fractures. I have a particular interest in shoulder instability (dislocations) and sports related injuries and I relish the challenge of treating complex shoulder instability in high demand patients. I have a great deal of experience in treating military personnel and sportspersons, amateur and professional alike.
