GMC reg: 4044972Trained in Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery in Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol and London and undertook fellowships in the UK and overseas including two BSSH (British Society of Surgery of the Hand) awarded Fellowships to world centres of excellence. Hand surgery research in collaboration with Cambridge University, including an international multicentre study on tendon healing. Interests in wound and scar healing and his research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals including the British/European Journals of Plastic Surgery and the American and European Journals of Hand Surgery. Published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed clinical and scientific journals, book chapter and over 40 presentations at national and international surgical meetings. Chairman for sessions at national Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery meetings and chaired a session at the World Hand Surgery conference (IFSSH) in London in 2022. Active in hand surgery training, including teaching on hand surgery courses in the Royal College of Surgeons in London, Cambridge and Bristol. Passed the European Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2007, winning the overall prize. First class honours from Cambridge University, 1990 and medical degree from Oxford University, 1993. Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital from 2020. I have enjoyed joining a new unit with fantastic colleagues and am heavily involved in a very exciting development of the hand surgery and trauma service, despite the ongoing impact from Covid. I was appointed as Associate Medical Director for Surgery in 2023 and continue to work with colleagues across the Trust to improve surgical services and continue the recovery from the Covid pandemic. I was a Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrookes) from 2008 to 2020 before moving to the South West for family reasons. I was the Plastic Surgery Lead for 4 years and then the Clinical Director for five specialist services, including the responses to Covid-19 in 2020. I have held positions responsible for clinical service assessment and safety, governance, quality and surgical service development.

Full-time, consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon since 2008, with specialist interests in Hand + Wrist surgery, skin cancer and benign skin conditions. Mr Gillespie trained with recognised experts in hand surgery from UK and Europe and continues to attend national and international meetings to continue learning the most up-to-date advances and techniques. He will always listen to your clinical needs and give you a full and honest assessment of possible treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, including the potential benefits as well as the risks. Procedures performed: Nerve surgery, including carpal tunnel release and other nerve compressions, denervation for joint pain and nerve transfer surgery after trauma. Dupuytrens disease, including open surgery (fasciectomy), needle treatments. Arthritis treatments for fingers, thumb and wrist, including steroid injections, trapezectomy, joint replacements, joint rebalancing and joint fusions (including minimal access and arthroscopic surgery). Hand, wrist or finger pain and stiffness, including surgical and non-surgical treatments. Trigger finger and thumb Ganglion treatments for fingers, palm and wrists, including surgical excision and needle treatments Tendon surgery after trauma or rupture caused by arthritis, tendon reconstruction and tendon transfers. Fingertip and nail surgery Skin lesions, benign and skin cancer including SCC and BCCs, mole removal, cysts, fatty lumps and lipomas, keloid scar treatment Skin reconstruction including skin grafts and local flaps
