Mr Nikolaos Haliasos

Training and background: I qualified in medicine at the University of Rome in 2001 with the highest distinction. I then continued my research studies in the USA with a scholarship in John’s Hopkins Medical School. I was successfully selected to train as a neurosurgeon in the prestigious North Thames London training program which comprised Imperial College and University College London Hospitals. In 2013 I was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and qualified as a Consultant Neurosurgeon. I focus in managing both spinal conditions as well as brain problems. My main areas of speciality is  managing neck and back pain aided by an excellent team of physiotherapists, pain specialists and chiropractors. I have special interest in treating arm and leg pains (sciatica) with minimally invasive techniques while trying to use surgery as the last step in the treatment process. I routinely carry operations for sciatica, arm pains, disc replacements in the neck, foramen magnum decompressions, spinal canal narrowing. I also have a special interest in trigeminal neuralgia where I have developed a techniques to deliver pain relief treatments with minimal discomfort. In my base NHS hospital (Queens in Romford) I also specialise in brain tumour operations especially in difficult areas of the brain that control speech and movement of hands. Part of my brain work involves treatment of hydrocephalus problems especially in older patients who present with cognitive decline. I regularly publish in peer reviewed journal and do active research trying to discover innovative ways to treat and help our patients. My career mission is to deliver excellent care while trying to understand my patients needs.
