GMC reg: 6167689Mr Lewis Gall is a dedicated and accomplished General and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) surgeon who aims to provide the highest-standard of patient-focused surgical care. Graduating from The University of Dundee School of Medicine in 2008, he then moved to the West of Scotland to commence his training in General Surgery. During his training he spent 3 years in London undertaking clinical and laboratory-based research to better understand the blood clotting abnormalities encountered by bleeding major trauma patients and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Trauma Sciences from Queen Mary University of London in 2018 in recognition of his contribution to the field. Returning to The West of Scotland, he completed his higher surgical training in General and Upper GI Surgery and developed a specialist interest in the management of oesophageal and gastric cancer. He was appointed as Consultant General and Oesophagogastric Surgeon in Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2021 where he continues to practice. Within his NHS practice, he has developed a keen subspecialist interest in advanced therapeutic endoscopy including endoscopic management of Barrett’s dysplasia and early oesophago-gastric cancer to complement his practice in oesophageal and gastric cancer resections. Working within a busy NHS tertiary referral centre, he is involved in the management of patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer from across the West of Scotland. Alongside his cancer surgery practice, Mr Gall has a busy elective General Surgical practice where he has a special interest in performing surgery for gallstone disease and abdominal wall hernia surgery. Mr Lewis Gall has a strong academic background, evidenced by the research awards and grants he has received in addition to having authored 23 peer-reviewed publications, written a book chapter and presented his research at Regional, National and International meetings. Mr Gall is committed to clinical teaching, research and surgical education. He is the Surgical Lead for the Emergency Laparotomy and Laparoscopic Surgery Audit (ELLSA) in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and is regularly involved in quality improvement projects to improve standards of patient-care. He is presently the Principal Investigator in Glasgow for several UK-wide multi-centre research projects. He is an enthusiastic educator who regularly supervises and teaches medical students and foundation doctors, and is a recognised Clinical Trainer of surgical trainees. He contributes as faculty on the RCPSG Basic Laparoscopic Skills Course and The Royal College of Surgeons Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) course and has delivered several invited lectures. In summary, Mr Lewis Gall can be trusted to deliver the highest standard of clinical practice, based on his extensive experience in clinical research and education, alongside exceptional communication skills in order to provide contemporary, evidence-based and patient-centred surgical care to his patient.
