Mr Laurence Whitefield

Laurence Whitefield is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at The Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust, providing a general ophthalmology service and specialist services in retinal diseases and cataract surgery. He consults and operates privately in North London at The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth and in South London at The Blackheath Hospital.He provides a wide range of ophthalmology services including cataract, retinal diseases, eyelid disorders, glaucoma, dry eye and general ophthalmic problems employing the use of advanced diagnostic and imaging equipment and surgical techniques.Areas of special interest include refractive cataract surgery and retinal diseases. Mr Whitefield is involved in teaching trainee eye surgeons nationally and runs basic and advanced cataract surgery courses. He is a member of the European Society of Retina Specialists.He is recognised by all the major insurers and sees self-paying patients.Laurence trained at Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School graduating in 1989. He commenced his specialist training in Ophthalmology in 1991, gaining his final fellowship from The Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1993. He held Senior Registrar positions at Charing Cross Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, The Western Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. He completed a fellowship in retinal diseases at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 1998 before being appointed to Consultant Grade in 1999, initially at Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup NHS Trust, then Kings College Hospital NHS Trust and since 2017 at The Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust.
