I graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1996. My training in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery was in Nottingham and New Zealand. I am based in Nottingham University Hospital where I am a Deputy Director of Surgery. My private practice focuses on knee and hip replacement surgery for arthritis. I also perform surgery for 'hip impingement' which is a cause of hip pain in young adults without arthritis. Knee Arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) is undertaken for relevant conditions, including cartilage regeneration and implantation. Hip replacement surgery is a dependable operation for achieving a good outcome. However, I pursue techniques to minimise the risk of complications and I achieve a lower than average rate of complications. In particular, the risk of infection with hip replacement in my practice is less than 1 in 700. Knee replacement surgery is generally regarded as less consistent in achieving good functional outcomes. I use advanced techniques including computer navigation technology to optimise the individualisation of knee replacement surgery for the patient and hence obtaining the best functional outcomes possible.
