Mr. Hellawell is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Northwick Park and St. Mark’s Hospital and at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Mr Hellawell is trained and qualified as a Da Vinci robotic surgeon with a high volume robotic radical prostatectomy practice.
He trained in laparoscopic oncology at Imperial College and at the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, Australia. He completed a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy fellowship in Leipzig, Germany with Professor Stolzenburg at the University of Leipzig. He has performed more than 500 laparoscopic prostatectomies and 100 laparoscopic cystectomies.
In addition to general urology he has a sub-specialty interest in urological oncology including prostate, bladder and renal cancer. He has a high volume practice in pelvic oncology (robotic radical prostatectomy and radical cystectomy) and upper tract surgery (robotic and laparoscopic nephrectomy).
He provides a complete general urology service including surgery for benign prostate disease and renal stone disease. He maintains an academic interest in clinical research and has published book chapters and papers on prostate cancer and laparoscopic surgery.
UROLOGICAL CANCERS: Prostate cancer - prostate cancer diagnosis, PSA testing, multi-parametric MRI, Prostate MRI review, targeted biopsy, transrectal biopsy, tranperineal biopsy, minimally invasive laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (keyhole surgery), active surveillance. Bladder cancer - bladder cancer diagnosis, haematuria diagnostics, cystoscopy, endoscopic resection, TURBT, radical cystectomy, ileal diversion, neobladder reconstruction. Renal Cancer - radical nephrectomy, minimally invasive procedures, laparoscopy. Testicular cancer - testicular lumps, orchidectomy.
GENERAL UROLOGY: Management of bladder outflow problems, benign obstruction, prostatitis, urethral stricture, TURP, problems of scrotum or foreskin, circumcision, hydrocoele, epididymal cysts, vasectomy, urology stone disease, recurrent urinary tract infections, including UTI, epididymitis, prostatitis.
