Mr Francesco Stringa

I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 10 years of experience in the field. I am a leading expert in UK and Europe for treatments in glaucoma, including conventional surgery (trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage devices) laser surgery (selective trabeculoplasty and iridotomy) and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). I perform standard and complex cataract surgery, along with glaucoma filtering surgery, drainage devices and laser glaucoma treaments. My interest is focused on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, with the purpose of maximising patients safety and treatment efficacy. To date, I have performed over 3,000 cataract surgeries and 1,000 glaucoma procedures in both my NHS and private practice. My outcomes in cataract surgery are higher than the national average. My NHS practice is based at University Hospital Southampton Trust, where I am currently the Clinical Lead for the Eye Operating Theatres. I also lead projects to improve patient safety and access to treatments. In addition to mentoring trainee and fellows at my base hospital in Southampton, I have been nominated the Next Generation Partner of the European Glaucoma Society. I am involved in the development of educational and research projects across Europe and the UK. I am an author of numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters about retina imaging and glaucoma surgery.
