Mr David Baring

I live in Edinburgh with my wife and three children. We were delighted to return to Edinburgh on a permanent basis when I was appointed as a ENT Consultant by NHS Lothian. It is a wonderful city in which to live and grow up. We also spend time in rural Northumberland allowing us to have the best of both worlds. When not working I thrive on spending time with the family and playing Hockey for Wastonians Hockey club albeit on an enthusiastic amateur basis.

I am a Consultant in the Edinburgh department of Otolaryngology , Head and Neck Surgery. I am fully trained in all aspects of the specialty and see a broad range of Ear Nose and Throat problems in the NHS. My main subspecialty training, gained in Glasgow as part of the West of Scotland Rotation and via a Fellowship at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Yorkhill), was in Ear Disease and Paediatric ENT and this is now reflected in my NHS practice. I run specialist clinics in vertigo, paediatrics (all ages), tinnitus and otology. Working with both Paediatric ENT and Adult ENT is of particular relevance in Ear disease as the approaches to disease alter with maturity and I am the only Consultant providing this service on a regular basis in NHS Lothian. I am also developing an Adolescent service in ENT for the NHS to aid the transition from Paediatric to Adult care.
