Mr Brian Little

I qualified in 1995 from Queen’s university in Belfast, and then worked as a junior doctor in the Belfast surgical rotation. After becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998, I started specialising in urology. I completed a two year MD project in Queen’s University Belfast looking at genetic markers of bladder cancer, and non invasive use of these markers to detect bladder cancer. I joined the subspeciality training programme for urology in the west of scotland in 2002. I became a Fellow of the Royal college of surgeons in 2007 and was entered onto the specialist register. I have been a consultant for 15 years in Ayrshire, and the departmental clinical director for 7 of these. My work involves treating men with urinary symptoms because of prostate enlargement, either operatively or non-operatively. I have trained in prostate cancer diagnostics. I regularly treat erection problems, and other penis problems such as a foreskin that will not retract. I also investigate and treat blood in the urine, and recurrent urinary infections. I regularly do diagnostic procedures such as flexible cystosopy. I also do procedures that do not always require a general anaesthetic, such as bladder botox injections, vasectomy, and circumcision. I do general anaesthetic procedures where required, or at patient preference. Examples include bladder tumor resection, Trans-urethral resection of prostate, and procedures for scrotal swelling.
