GMC reg: 3194814Mr Andy Pay graduated from St George’s Hospital, London in 1988. He trained in Plastic Surgery at Stoke Mandeville, Salisbury, Bristol and Oxford and received further specialist training during fellowship periods at the Wellington Hospital, London, and also in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong. These experiences helped him to develop his specialist interests, in the management of melanoma and other skin cancers, as well as soft tissue tumours. Mr Pay was granted the certificate in Higher Surgical training and entered onto the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register in 2000 after passing the National Plastic Surgery examination FRCS (Plast) in first place, with the award of the prestigious McGregor Gold Medal. Andy was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the NHS in 2002 at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. In this role, he has led the expansion of plastic surgery services at The Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Trust, a service now based primarily at the Townlands Hospital in Henley. Andy is very experienced in the management of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, but also in the management of squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas and other skin and soft tissue tumours. He has performed over 5000 surgical excisions of various skin cancers in his career, with an overall complete excision rate of 98-99% Mr Pay also has considerable experience of general plastic reconstructive surgery including the use of skin grafts and flap reconstructive surgery, particularly to the face and neck region. He has performed over 850 sentinel node biopsies for melanoma and is one of only a handful of surgeons in the Thames Valley who are licenced to perform complex nodal dissections for metastatic disease. Andy has frequently lectured on all aspects of Plastic Surgery, and has continued his personal and professional development in the management of skin malignancies to include non-surgical interventions such as cryotherapy and topical treatments in his repertoire. Mr Pay has also been fully trained in the use of the ‘Dermatoscope’© for the clinical assessment of skin lesions and is an advocate and active trainer in its use, both in the NHS and private sectors. Mr Pay is the Lead Clinician for the Skin Cancer Multi-disciplinary Team covering South Oxfordshire and Berkshire West. He is the Clinical Lead for the Plastic Surgery Service at Townlands Hospital, Henley on Thames, Royal Berkshire NHS Trust. He has published and has lectured on his specialist interests at a national and international level.
