Mr Andrew Parker

I qualified Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours at Leeds University in 1981. I underwent ENT training in Leeds, Bristol and Sheffield gaining Fellowships to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (1986) and England (1987). I obtained a Master of Surgery Degree for Higher Research in to the optimal treatment of Deafness/Glue Ear in Children from Bristol University in 1991. I also hold the qualification of Diploma in Laryngology and Otology at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. I am emeritus Consultant ENT Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and at the University of Sheffield respectively. I hold a Certificate of Revalidation with the General Medical Council until 2025 and I am fully compliant with the process of appraisal and continuing professional development. I remain in full time clinical practice in both the NHS and private sectors with NHS patients being assessed and treated through ‘Choose and Book’ and in Peak District clinics in association with General Practitioner commissioning consortia. I have been Programme Director for the North Trent ENT Training Rotation and I have previously been a Lead Clinician for Head & Neck Cancer at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. I am a Member of the Court of Examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the DOHNS, MRCS and former DLO examinations. I am an external adviser for the NHS Ombudsman. Member of the Invited Review Panel, Division of Professional Standards and Regulation, Royal College of Surgeons of England 2009. Panel Member and one of the chief Invigilating Examiners to the Professional Linguistic Assessment Board at the General Medical Council in London and Manchester. I have undertaken medico-legal work of this nature at Consultant level since 1992 and since the Civil Justice Reforms I have acted as a joint expert witness when asked to do so. I am a Law Society checked expert no. 4023 and have undergone appropriate training in medico-legal assessment and report writing.

I am a general ENT Surgeon appointed as Consultant in 1992. I have an excellent grasp of all the relevant areas of my specialty. I have a particular interest in the management of the dizzy patient, sinusitis,  voice disorder, swallowing problems and deafness.  I have a longstanding interest in rhinology particularly nasal septoplasty and septorhinoplasty. I also specialise in the provision of second opinions and reporting for medicolegal claims. I hold weekly clinics in Sheffield and Matlock. Home visits can be arranged including simple treatments such as suction clearance of ear wax and I can undertake private consultations in the High Peak of Derbyshire either in Chinley or Chapel en le Frith which forms part of my regular practice area. Although I am a Sheffield based Consultant a significant component of my practice is carried out in the Clinical Sciences Block at Huntbridge Hall in Matlock where we have state of the art audiological and vestibular (hearing and balance) equipment. We also have access to full vestibular (dizzy) rehabilitation facilities.
