Mr Amir Ghanbari

After completing his medical degree at the University of Dundee, Mr Ghanbari went on to do his formal surgical training in London and later in East Midlands including a period of research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) In 2017. Following the completion of his formal surgical training, he embarked on a royal college of surgeons accredited fellowship in Bristol. After finishing this fellowship in advanced colorectal surgery (Pelvic Floor & Inflammatory Bowel Disease Surgery), Mr Ghanbari began his first colorectal consultant surgeon post at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He then returned to London in 2018 to take up a substantive consultant post in colorectal and general surgery at Homerton University Hospital, where he is still based. He joined The London Independent Hospital in 2019 and joined Princess Grace Hospital in 2020. Mr Ghanbari has an active interest in teaching and research. He has written a number of peer-reviewed papers and has presented at national and international meetings. He lectures and supervises medical students as part of their surgical training and study modules. He takes an active role in mentoring/ supervising foundation year doctors. He is also an instructor for the royal college of surgeon’s courses such as Care of the Critically Ill (CCrISP) and Basic Surgical Skills courses. Outside of work he is a very keen sportsman, he is a keen runner and enjoys swimming, indoor climbing and boxing. He is an excellent communicator which is reflected in the feedback from his patients. His dedication to his work and his patients ensures great outcomes.

He is a specialist in laparoscopic (key-hole) colorectal surgery and his areas of interest include colorectal cancers, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and Diverticular disease. He is an expert in treatments for these conditions which include various types of bowel resection (colectomies), stoma formation and reversal. He is highly trained in treating benign ano-rectal conditions such as Haemorrhoids, Anal Fissure, Fistulas and Pilonidal Sinus disease. He is also a trained General and Emergency surgeon and vastly experienced in performing procedures such as hernia repairs (groin/ umbilical/ incisional, parastomal), gall bladder surgery, excision of benign lesions and emergency procedures such appendicectomies and bowel surgery for diverticular disease. He is a very skilled endoscopist and performs colonoscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies
