GMC reg: 4664053Miss Anna Maino is an eye surgeon who specialises in eye movements, double vision (diplopia) and eye deviations in children and adults. She is an expert in managing double vision, with a range of non-surgical and surgical tools. This is particularly relevant to those patients who are at risk of developing double vision after cataract surgery. She also offers advice all aspects of general ophthalmology. After obtaining a first class honours degree in 1998 in Italy, she then worked as Glaucoma Research Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (1999-2000). She completed her specialist ophthalmic training at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (2001-2008). In 2008, she undertook an internationally renowned fellowship in Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She started working as a Consultant at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport in September 2009 where she was appointed to develop and lead a specialist Strabismus and Paediatric service. She moved to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2016 and she continues to lead the Strabismus and Paediatric Eye service in Stockport. Miss Maino has an interest in medical education and research, actively participating to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes as organiser, lecturer and trainer. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and she regularly presents papers at national and international conferences. She was the Lead for New Consultants within the Education Committee, Royal College of Ophthalmologists and she redesigned the New Consultants course with great success. She represents the United Kingdom at the European Board of Ophthalmology and she is its Chair of Education.
